yoni
/yō′nē/
noun
The female sexual organs, or a symbol of them, especially as an object of sacred veneration, within certain types of sacred religion including Hinduism, Buddhism, and other cultures.
A stylized representation of a vulva worshiped as a symbol of a goddess or Shakti.
The symbol under which Sakti, or the personification of the female power in nature, is worshiped.
Our womanhood is to be celebrated. we are all, each and every one of us a sacred goddess. Every woman is unique, every yoni is unique, we are perfect as we are and to be celebrated as ‘shakti incarnated’
so here it is, this is my everything yoni blog.
I’m here to share my personal experience of ‘Yoni’ with you which i hope will be helpful and inspirational
CONNECTION AND MEDITATION
essentially you only need to meditate upon your lower three chakras called your ‘cauldron’, to activate your womb chakra, this sacred ‘chalice’ is seated within your pelvis which is shaped like a bowl, i worked with this energy as a sacred dance teacher for over 20 years, all of your lower chakras are seated within this sacred bowl area, they all feed. from one to another, by doing as many practices as you can you will allow these centres to free up, open and the energy flow through better to each other, assisting you to connect to your womb center more fully:
the three cauldron chakras are
ROOT CHAKRA groundedness
SACRAL CHAKRA sensuality
SOLAR PLEXUS CHAKRA power

The following activities will help activate these chakras and allow you to cleanse and balance energy in your ‘cauldron’,
qigong
chigung
yoga
shamanic movement practices
breathwork for lower chakras
belly dance
sacred dance
THE PELVIC FLOOR
is essential for health, by keeping this sacred area toned, you can improve sex, holding your pee, posture and overall body core body strength, as well as many other benefits.
In yoga and esoteric movement practice the pelvic floor lock, also called the ‘muladhara root lock’ in yoga is practiced by pulling up on your pelvic floor, this is an essential exercise for overall physical health, this is also taught to energy healers for retaining and utilising psychic and universal chi pranic energy , and is essential practice for shamanic and energy healing work, i teach these practices in my shamanic usui reiki, energy healing and shamanic healing 121 courses.
The top practices for Yoni Activation are
pelvic floor exercises and exercising
(or) yoni egg practice which can also utilise kegel (weight lifting for the vaginal muscles) helping a range of sides such as: incontinence, prolapse, sexual performance and more
yoni steaming
yoni gazing
womb healing, womb ceremonies, womb blessing, and shamanic munay ki the rite of the womb (cara offers these as online sessions)
sacred sensuality and sexuality practices, such as how to direct sexual energy through the energy system
Cara’s story
The day after my mother died was my first ever yoni steam.
three weeks before her death a client contacted me asking me to create a Yoni steam blend, so in between hospital
visits to my mother it gave me time in the garden and sunshine harvesting and gathering the necessary herbs
And so my first ever Yoni steam blend was created, the huge bag of pretty coloured herbs sat there a utopia of fresh greens glowing with hints of heart opening rose pink, cheery calendula yellow and soft hues of lavender purple.
It sat there waiting for quite a few weeks as a part of me wasn’t quite sure about Yoni steaming, I heard of it before and even had friends that sang its praises but a part of me was curious and the other part of me thought why?
The day I came back from the hospital sitting at the side of my mothers deceased body with my sister was the day i did my first yoni steam, the herbs were ready and now it was time
I prepared a large bowl of steaming water, and then steeped some herbs in the misty water, smelling their bouquet, i was tired, worn out and ready to rest but felt so alert and wired, i wearily took the bowl of herbs to my bedside and laid over the bowl, feeling the hot steam envelope me, i laid in my own arms and listened to ancient pagan mother earth songs, and felt strangely held in this space
I felt my ancestral womb line, the connection unfolded to my mother‘s womb, her mothers womb, my grandmother‘s womb and so on, this lineage of female ancestral womb-space, i drifted in this space, the meditation, stillness and warmth so relaxing and nurturing
A few days later, i was getting dressed and my oaryner said ‘whets thst on the floor?’ I noticed calcified deposits that had fallen from my underwear , these crumbled flat discs had vein like shapes in them. I sat with them looking staring thinking.
I was puzzled at first and then it dawned on me…. to my shock. These were calcified pieces of placenta from when I lost a child over 15 years ago, wow! this was how powerful my yoni steam was.
So from that time, I was a devout steamer
I steamed once or twice a week as a meditation and wellbeing practice.
I started to combine this practice with Yoni egg practice also as I will discuss later in this blog
In my journey, I found there was so many benefits to Yoni steaming and Yoni egg practice, and that it has very ancient route and lineage for female well-being and wellness through the ages. I hope you are inspired to start your yoni journey, i will share my techniques and woman advice on hos to practice with a yoni egg and yoni steam:
When to Yoni steam
Yoni steam can help many women in many different ways, we are all unique and each journey will be individual and unique. Yoni steaming can help many women probably more than we think with many issues, the following is my experience of seeing how yoni steaming has helped women i know:
Physical cleansing, care and general health of the yoni, the herbs when used are very beneficial
female energy connection: this will help body-mind-soul connect to your feminine energy through your womb centre, including assisting better self body image, self worth and self confidence
can help reduce stress and anxiety as you focus on relaxation and provide a routine for more ‘you-time’
can help menstruation issues and symptoms, especially if your womb is holding toxicity of any kind, your womb should be cleansed if you are experiencing menustration issues, womb problems etc, stagnant energy can collect in the womb area from environmental or emotional / energetic pollution
can help menopause issues and symptoms
can help with womb issues such as pcos, heavy periods, etc
can help the energetic womb for cleansing (like a smudge), including clearing out old energies of past sexual partners
can help on the healing road if you have had related to your womb: trauma, ptsd, sexual abuse, rape, abortion, miscarriage, physical abuse, emotional abuse, vaginal or womb operations such as hysterectomy etc
what’s in yoni steam?
A Yoni steam should contain completely natural and organic very powerful dried herbs that are used like a tea to create an infusion and used as a steam blend

How much herbs do I need?
A steam can be done with as little as a teaspoon of herbs (the same amount as what you find in a regular herbal teabag) though some people prefer to use more herb
What ingredients are in a Yoni steam?
I have listed all FULL INGREDIENTS though every herbalist has their own blend this is my preferred chosen blend of naturally dried Ingredients to create a wonderful well rounded Yoni steam:
Lavender Buds - balance, anti fungal and bacterial
Rose Petals - soothe and connect yoni to heart centre of love
Rosemary - is very toning and cleansing
Mugwort - clears all unwanted energy, it is a powerful moxibustion herb
Motherwort - soothes the feminine psyche
Sage - deeply clears and cleanses energy both physically and energetically
Oregano - another super powerful anti viral, anti bacterial and anti fungal
Lemonbalm (Melissa) - brings a joyfulness to the steam and soft floral note, as bee balm soothes the soul
Damiana - ignites our sensual and sexual energy
Calendula (marigold) - is highly soothing, moisturising, healing and nurturing herb
note: there are many more benefits than listed above.

how to yoni steam
There are many different ways to yoni steam, some choose to be seated and others choose to practice laid on the floor. There are many different ways including Yoni steam seats and laying in child pose over a poufe or cushions which I prefer
Here is a quick guide
WHST YOU WILL NEED
a large bowl suitable for hot water (20-30cm)
yoni steam herbs
boiling hot filtered water
a blanket
a towel or two
poufe / cushions and a rug or yoga mat or a yoni steam seat
a robe or dressing gown
music, candles, journal
read this once and prepare all of your items ready for your steam in advance, especially the area in your bedroom or steaming room don’t forget if you live with people ask them to allow you space for your practice. Ensure young children and pets are away from your space as there will be hot steaming water present. if in doubt do a patch test to check in for any allergies 24 hours before you steam apply a small patch on the inside of your wrist and wait 24 hours
Before you Yoni steam you may want to include a pre-practice such as Yoga, qigong or meditation practice or even a walk in nature or a relaxing shower or bath
turn phone off and do not disturb
use a bowl for your Yoni steam (don’t use it for anything else, this is your sacred bowl) steep the herbs in just boiled water, then place a lid or plate over the bowl to keep the essential oils in, cool slightly to a temperature that is comfortable for you and then you are ready to steam
find a warm relaxing quiet spot where you will not be disturbed get your music and candles ready a nice warm robe and a blanket to cover your lower half find if you are going to steam on the floor a poufe, small stool or pillows, bolsters, yoga mats, to prop up and elevate your chest as you squat over the steam bowl . you can also sit on the edge of a chair, practice first and make sure you are safe and comfortable and cannot fall or slip
when the water is the right temperature for you undress your lower half and wrap a towel or blanket around your lower naked half as you lower yourself over the bowl, ensure you are in a comfortable position as you may want to steam for between 5 to 20 minutes allowing yourself to completely relax into your steaming journey, being aware of the water temperature at all times and how long you feel comfortable steaming
after your steam lay in savasana (corpse pose) resting on your bed or seat for at least 10 minutes allowing the relaxing effects of the Yoni steam to relax your body and mind
journal: you can journal if you would like to write notes or even mindfully make note of any feelings energy or thoughts during your Yoni steam session as these can be very deeply healing for you to reflect on
Give thanks and gratitude: once finished give your sacred herb waters to nature, a tree, your garden or wherever feels right for you too honour the Earth and the bounty of the herbs and flowers that allowed you to have your steam

How often to steam?
Most women steam one or two times a week, you can steam daily if required for short periods
Most women will do a course of Yoni steaming and then have a regular maintenance fortnightly or monthly steam, you can also choose to have a course of steaming as in when required
Yoni eggs
what is a yoni egg ?
a yoni egg is a carved gemstone in the shape of an egg, with a highly polished surface, which you can use for yoni egg practice
pretty soon after the start of my yoni steam journey I decided it was time to start my yoni egg journey. I researched the use of Yoni eggs thoroughly and ensured that any yoni egg would be 100% safe to use.
I researched the different ancient cultural practices of using a Yoni egg and found that in eastern practices the women would start with a black obsidian egg to remove ‘shadow in the womb’ and then move on to rose quartz egg to establish love within the womb and then lastly practise with nephrite Jade egg which was the traditional practice to follow. as for size the resort of information available on the Internet there are three main sizes of uni egg. The largest is around 50 mm in length. The medium size is around 40 mm and the small egg is around 30 mm the larger the egg the easier it is to keep in the Yoni and perfect for beginners or women who want to improve the pelvic floor muscles with kegel exercises. at the time of starting to practice I was 40 years old with a healthy pelvic floor. and had no children I started with the large size. And worked my way down to the medium size.

practicing the traditional way
my practice started with black obsidian, allowing me to release any cords of attachment to past sexual relationships that I had had and also energetically cleanse my womb. I felt the energy of the black obsidian grounding and rooting my lower Chakra‘s and also deeply cleansing my womb Chakra.
after this practice felt it cleared and cleansed any stuck or stagnant energy from my womb I then moved on to practice with a rose quartz egg. This energy felt very different and the practice with the rose quartz egg allowed my womb energetic centre to connect to my heart centre. It also allowed me to access self-love and on the deeper self-confidence.
During my practice, I use the eggs both internally and also externally to hold during meditation
drilled or undrilled?
Choosing is a matter of personal preference. An undrilled egg has no hole. It is completely solid and smooth a drilled egg has a small hole at the top where you can place a thin pull cord to help you remove the egg after insertion
I personally decided to choose undrilled eggs as I felt these were more hygienic and natural to use, for me they were easy to insert and also to push out which gave the pelvic floor extra exercise
Using a Yoni Egg
My practising experience and suggested guidelines:
Sit with your egg and connect or meditate.
Set your intention for use with your gemstone egg, you can’t even program your gemstone for specific purposes such as cleansing healing or any intention you required
Insert the egg and practice Yoga, qigong , breathwork, sensual body connection or meditate, some women may choose to go about the daily business being mindful that the egg is present at all times, you will feel the internal vagina walls working to hold the egg in place. Be extra careful when you go to the toilet and ensure to remove the egg when urinating or defecating then reinsert as the egg may push out and you don’t want to lose it in the toilet.
kegel exercise: you can exercise with your egg by consciously pulling the egg upward and pushing it downward which will activate your pelvic floor muscles. There may also be other ways to exercise with your egg too.
When you have finished your practice, remove the egg, at this point you can sit and meditate further or journal and record your journey
Ensure you sterilise the egg correctly and efficiently.
Play your egg in a protective pouch in a sacred place when not in use
Continuing my Yoni journey
After quite a few months of practice I moved onto a green jade egg, i chose a green nephrite Jade egg. These are known as the Queen of Jade, but any high quality green jade egg will be good. Green Jade comes in many shades from light green to dark green to a mix of greens. Nephrite Jade is very dark green almost black. Green jade eggs are absolutely beautiful energy, allowing you to refine energy, connect to heart space from womb on all levels, welcome womanifestation and sooth your higher soul.
What gemstones can I use?
There are many other gemstones you can use as a Yoni egg
Be careful that they are not made of toxic gemstones and are suitable for internal use. Some of the gemstones include
amethyst
green jade
white jade
clear quartz
rose quartz
black obsidian
carnelian
tigers eye
opalite (which is a form of dolomite and silica)
Sterilising your Yoni egg
To sterilise you can boil your egg or place in just boiled hot water or I chose to wipe with skin safe steriliser or sterilising alcohol, don’t use anything too harsh as your yoni has a microbiome of its own and also gemstones can be delicate
you could also use ozonated water to sterilise your egg
choosing the right yoni egg
ensure the seller is selling eggs suitable for yoni egg practice, these are classified as ‘genuine yoni eggs’
The surface of the egg should be highly polished and impermeable and not porous. Any holes or gaps or cracks in the gemstone could harbour unfriendly bacteria and And be hard to clean so ensure the surface is smooth
